Lesotho a Kingdom in the Sky (with Diamonds)
Lesotho the place where rain is made… Its no wonder that South Africa buys millions of litres of water from Lesotho every month. Its as if rain is made there. This 3 day, 2 night trip will explore the North Eastern part of Lesotho, the Highlands.
This is a comfortable family orientated long weekend tour in Lesotho where you and your family will have the pleasure of seeing some of the highlights of Lesotho with a guided group. One of the major benefits of the trip is that we will be based in one spot for the accommodation, thus you only have to unpack and pack up once. The comfort and stunning setting of Afriski will be our base while we explore the stunning surrounding routes as far as Katse Dam. The Ford Adventure Club prides itself in, including on every trip, a “road less travelled” and this Lesotho trip will be no exception.

ITINERARY
DAY 1 - We will meet in the small town of Fouriesburg for breakfast at 09h00. After breakfast we will head to the border and cross into Lesotho. Our team will assist you with the border crossing and the necessary list of what you need for this process. We will make our way up and into the mountains and have lunch on route. We will go over the Moteng pass (2080m) and then towards the Mahlasela, reaching a height of 3222m. From there we will head towards Afriski, where you can unpack and acclimatise for the next 2 nights.
DAY 2 - Will see us depart from Afriski to the Bokong Valley for the day. We will explore some of the amazing trails in that valley, and out our vehicles in some proper 4x4 environments. Those keen Flyfishers can even cast a fly in the streams. This is an exciting driving day with many valleys and rivers we need to cross, some with bridges, some without. We will do a tailgate lunch along the route. In the late afternoon we will head back towards Afriski for dinner.
DAY 3 - After breakfast we will check out and head down towards Katse Dam. We will explore the gravel roads around the dam and if time allows visit the dam wall. At about mid-morning we will start heading back to the border. We should be back on the South African side mid-afternoon.
What do you need for the trip?
A Ford Ranger/Everest or Raptor 4x4 (no, unfortunately our roads are not accessible with 4x2). You do not need any specific off-road experience, but if you have completed our Level 1 or 2 courses it will be VERY beneficial. Our tour leaders will have all the necessary recovery gear with them. You will also need the following:
- A valid passport for each person (valid for at least 6 months after date of return).
- Children would need to have their unabridged birth certificates as well (Original or certified copy).
- Vehicle papers (If your vehicle is subject to a financial lease, hire-purchase or loan agreement, you will need a letter of permission to travel to Lesotho from that authority).
- A copy of the Green Natis Document with the vehicle details on.

They say nothing in Lesotho is far, it just takes long to get there… Don’t let the +/- 380km round trip in 3 days fool you.
